Yet another great deal for our fellow collectors: this is one of the latest models in the Submariner V series; this watch was originally purchased in 2009 and it was never worn. This watch reprises the 2003 special edition that was released in commemoration of the Submariner's 50th anniversary; it's affectionately referred to as the "Kermit Rolex", an allusion to its green unidirectional bezel.

Speaking of which... do you know why the rotating bezel in Rolex Submariners is unidirectional, with counter-clockwise motion? These watches were traditionally meant to be used in sports diving, with the purpose of the rotating bezel being to help the diver keep track of the time he spends under water. To this effect, the bezel only rotates counterclockwise in order to prevent divers from accidentally increasing the countdown they've initially adjusted, and be immersed for longer than it would be recommendable.

The "Kermit" special edition Rolex was innovative in other ways besides using a green bezel. For example, this was one of the first models that used the so-called "Maxi Dial", which features bigger markers and pointers than regular models. The Kermit was held in high regards by collectors so it's still manufactured... although each edition usually comes in quite restrict numbers.
